Twitter’s Profile Design Changes… to Facebook?

Twitter is rolling out major changes to profile pages and many are asking if Twitter is becoming too Facebooky.

The Guardian even did a side-by-side on a number of profiles and indeed, Facebook and Twitter profiles do look more alike than ever:

Twitter have announced they are introducing a series of changes to the way their profile pages work, to help users create ‘a whole new you’. Some Twitter users have already transferred to the new format which includes tweet highlights and wide cover-images. The redesign closely resembles updates made by Facebook in 2013.

And trust that more sponsored content will find it’s way into those broad new spaces in the layout! 🙂

Of course, the obvious kicker is that Twitter is a service that relies heavily on mobile users and despite recent changes to profiles and the overall appearance of the mobile app, Facebook and Twitter profiles on your mobile remain quite distinct.

Some notes on the Twitter profile changes from CNN:

The new design gives Twitter users a much larger profile photo and a customized header image. Twitter says the new profile will highlight specific tweets and allow people searching through profile pages to find the kind of tweets they want. For example, followers can choose to see just tweets with photos and videos or replies in Twitter conversations.

A user can pin a favorite tweet to the top of his or her profile page, while tweets with the most retweets and replies will appear slightly larger so they are easier for others to find.

The new profile pages are currently available only to a small group of existing users as well as those new to Twitter.

Of course, you can check out the new look for yourself at Ocean Drive Social’s Twitter page @OceanDrSocial.

What do you think about the new changes to Twitter? Good? Bad? Don’t care?
